Want more flawless skin on your Valentine’s day date tonight? I’m sure you’re familiar with the expression, “soft as a baby’s butt.” We’ve had Baby Lips for a while, they must have thought, let’s give them Baby Skin. You got to love how they are selling us youth in a tube everywhere we look.
Don’t get derailed by my snarky remarks, I actually like the new Maybelline Baby Skin – keep reading to find out why.
I was very excited to see the Baby Skin display in Pharmaprix after hearing rave reviews on youtube. People keep comparing it to the Benefit Porefessional (which I have never tired) but anything that claims to diminish the appearance of pores perks my interested.
I can’t remember how much I paid, but it was under 12$ for 20 ml. That’s a small price to pay for poreless skin, isn’t it?
FYI – Brace yourself, because at one point in this post there is a swatch with a pore close up and it is NOT pretty.

Maybelline Baby Skin swatch on bare skin and under foundation
I assure you that it looks much better from afar. These are extreme close ups with no photoshop editing (except the crops and the added text).
The Baby Skin gel is not too thick, but it isn’t light either. The product is clear and has no detectable scent. It has a slick, silicone feel when you rub it between your fingers.
Simply spreading and blending this product on bare skin does not blur or minimize the appearance of them. The magic happens when you blend foundation over top – that’s when I see the ‘baby skin’ effect. It provides a smooth surface for the foundation. This fills pores and creates a flatter surface for the foundation; it effectively blurs the appearance of my pores under makeup.
I know this doesn’t sound very sanitary; something covering up our pores to create a smooth surface, what? However, I haven’t experienced any break outs with this and I have oily and acne prone skin. That being said, I only used the Baby Skin on areas with large, visible pores. My pores are largest on my cheeks, towards the centre of my face on either side of my nose
I’m a firm believer that when you don’t need a primer, you shouldn’t wear it. In other words, do you really need a flawless face when you are going to the grocery store or running to class? Probably not. However, when I film up-close beauty videos, my pores are very obvious in HD.
As I mentioned above, there are no claims with regards to lasting power or oil prevention. This product lasts 5-6 hours, until my foundation starts to fade. It doesn’t make my skin more or less oily – I keep blotting sheets in my purse, so I’m fine.
