Dermalogica Redness Relief Primer SPF20 Launch

Dermalogica recently released its new PowerBright TRx and Redness Relief Primer, which are both designed to enhance and relieve the skin during periods of climate change.

Dermalogica Redness Relief Primer SPF20

Dermalogica Redness Relief Primer SPF20

A product designed with ultimate relief for sensitive or sensitized skin and a part of the UltraCalming line. The new facial primer addresses redness in the short and long-term by protecting and priming the skin, while providing a base for more flawless application and longer wear for makeup.

This new formula contains:

  • UltraCalming Complex to support the ongoing recovery of irritated skin tissues, reducing hypersensitivity
  • Natural botanical extracts of Yeast, Oat and Oat Kernel Oil offering immediate calming effects
  • Natural botanical extracts provide the sheer green tint helping to camouflage the redness
  • Extract of Oat, or Avena Sativa, rich in avenanthramides proven to have natural anti-redness and anti-irritant properties.
  • Silicone base providing a matte, velvety feel that protects the integrity of the skin’s essential lipid barrier from further aggravation
  • SPF20 for daily defense against sun exposure to prevent further skin inflammation and sensitivity

The primer’s benefits:

  • Calms irritation
  • Protects skin from UVA/UVB exposure (which can further aggravate sensitization)
  • Produces a smooth, translucent, red-neutralizing finish for an even skin tone
  • Primes the skin surface

Sensitive vs. Sensitized: Sensitive skin is a genetic trait, while sensitized skin is a growing phenomenon with multiple causes including increased exposure to environmental assaults, stress and chemicals. There are two primary contributors to common skin redness:

  • Immunogenic inflammation: the immune system launches a cascade of inflammation and involves the activation of white blood cells
  • Neurogenic inflammation: triggered by the nervous system

In both cases, the respective process results in pain, redness, itching, swelling and heat associated with inflammation. The newest understanding of chronic skin redness concludes that it is the combination of genetic susceptibility, immune disruption, nerve activity and epidermal barrier function that contributes to skin sensitivity and inflammation.

Redness Relief Primer SPF20, $62 CDN, comes in an easy to use and travel friendly 0.75 oz/22ml tube and now available at Dermalogica authorized skin centers, spas and salons across Canada.

It really wouldn’t be one of my posts without the mentions of food now, would it?

Joking aside, I haven’t delved into testing out the treatments yet, but when I do, I will definitely check back in. I have the feeling that this primer will definitely come in handy for the harsher months where my skin occasionally gets red and irritated.

What are your thoughs on primers? Is redness relief a quality you look for?

*I was invited to an event for the product launch.
