The new Quo by Orly Summer 2015 nail polish collection is filled with neons, which will undoubtedly brighten your mood on this gloomy Monday!
I have four shades to swatch from this collection, but bare in mind that it is a little difficult to accurately picture neon shades on camera. This is why I rarely take nail polish swatch photos with a white background, because it throws off my camera’s colour balance.
QUO by ORLY Summer 2015 Nail Polishes
Rush is a bright cream purple, I had some trouble getting the formulation to go on smooth and evenly. I’m not to sure if it was the polish reacting to my base coat. I needed a top coat to help level out the polish and add some shine, because it almost had a semi matte finish.
Jawbreaker is a cream neon orange that is pretty accurately depicted in the photo above. I thought the formulation was good, as it offered up great opacity in 2-3 coats. The formulation runs on the thick side, so I recommend either applying thin coats or at least waiting sufficient time between coats so as to prevent smudging.
Lastly, Adrenaline is a true neon green. It was probably my favourite shade in the bunch, along with Jawbreaker. However, the formula was sheer and difficult to build up. I highly recommend using it with a white base coat or ridge filler, because otherwise, you will be applying 3-4 thin coats. It requires patience, but the colour is stunning.
My one gripe with the entire collection was that the nail polish brushes have uneven bristles, which made getting a flawless application difficult. It was next to impossible to get a smooth edge along the cuticle. Jagged bristles make for streaky nail polish application, which means that using a top coat to conceal imperfections is compulsory.
Availability: currently at Shoppers Drug Mart / Pharmaprix at $10 each.
